The Story Behind Remy’s Jewel Cat
This summer in Florida, my 16-year-old granddaughter visited and fell in love with my decades-old stash of scrap jewelry and old watch parts—gifts and hand-me-downs from family and friends. Missing her cat back home, Remy, she sketched a feline silhouette and began hand-placing brooches, rhinestones, buttons, and gears until a shimmering cat emerged in resin.

Materials & Technique
- Upcycled vintage jewelry: brooches, watch faces/gears, rhinestones, buttons, faux pearls
- Hand-poured artist-grade resin on a painted base, with jewels encased in the sides as well as the bottom
- Careful hand-placement for eyes, whiskers, and floral accents to form Remy’s silhouette
Why Upcycling Matters
Nothing here is mass-produced. Every piece has a past life—worn to dances, gifted for anniversaries, tucked into keepsake boxes—now reborn as a single artwork with its own story. That’s the heart of our Materials & Ethics.
The Second Tray: A Florida Souvenir
During her trip she also beachcombed at Sanibel, Boca Grande, and Caspersen Beach, finding shells, fossils, and shark teeth. She used some of those finds to craft a second, ocean-blue tray, which she kept as her personal souvenir.
