An American Adventure Begins: Fossils, Roads, Stories, and the Hunt for What’s Still Waiting

Mark and Donna beginning An American Adventure with fossils, roads, and travel stories across the United States

Some journeys begin with a plane ticket. Ours begins with a book, a road, and a promise to pay attention.

101 American Fossil Sites You’ve Gotta See

We are setting out across the United States with 101 American Fossil Sites You’ve Gotta See in hand, using it as one of our guideposts for a new chapter in our story. This will not be a rushed checklist. It will be a living American adventure built one stop, one landscape, one museum, one fossil bed, one roadside wonder, and one meaningful discovery at a time.

Along the way, Mark and Donna will be chasing more than destinations. We will be looking for the places where ancient life still whispers through stone, where forgotten seas once covered dry land, where road miles become memories, and where the story of America feels bigger than any map can hold.

Traveling with us in spirit and story are our two mascots, Arthur and Scout. Arthur brings the ocean, deep time, wit, and fossil wisdom. Scout brings curiosity, the open road, wide landscapes, and the thrill of discovering what is hidden just beyond the next bend. Together, they help tell the larger story of Fossil Art Creations: that the world is still full of wonder if you are willing to go look for it.

This journey will also live inside our YouTube channel, An American Adventure, where we will share the road as it unfolds. That means fossil sites, scenic stops, unexpected finds, quiet places, gem and mineral detours, local stories, and the honest beauty of discovering America one story at a time. Some stops will be famous. Some will be nearly forgotten. All of them will matter.

And fossils will only be part of it.

We also want to add gem and mineral hunting stops to our travels, so this adventure grows into something even richer: fossil beds, rock shops, museum collections, roadside geology, public dig sites, and places where the land still offers up crystals, agates, geodes, petrified wood, turquoise, garnets, and other treasures for those patient enough to seek them.

Along the way, we also hope to include rockhounding stops and American fossil sites that reveal how much history and beauty are still waiting across the United States.

This is where Fossil Art Creations and An American Adventure truly meet. Not as separate ideas, but as one unfolding path. The stories inspire the travel. The travel deepens the stories. The fossils connect us to ancient worlds. The gems remind us that beauty is buried in the rough. And every stop gives us something new to bring back, not just in what we carry, but in what we understand.

This is not just a road trip.
It is a search for history, wonder, and meaning across the American landscape.
And we are just getting started.
